Kerala floods have made state's dams and reservoirs prone to earthquakes

According to a research study published in the journal Natural Hazards, 21 dams and reservoirs of the southern Indian coastal state of Kerala, after the devastating floods of 2018, have become highly prone to tremors due to a phenomenon called reservoir induced seismicity (RIS). Kerala has 43 dams and reservoirs primarily located in the deformed and fractured and ecologically sensitive Western Ghats area.
