'SIRC 2020 Re-Mind' in November- Setting the standard for industry events in the future digital world

| 16 Oct 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted the global economy as well as livelihoods and provided an acid test of the resilience of businesses and people to adapt and respond positively to the changes and challenges brought about by the pandemic.

Like many major international networking events, the physical Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) event has been rescheduled to 2021.

To fill the void, the Organising Committee is pleased to announce plans for a virtual event – ‘SIRC 2020 Re-Mind’ – to keep SIRC etched in the minds of all our loyal supporters whilst recreating the SIRC experience virtually. The event will be co-hosted by leading global reinsurer, Swiss Re.

Virtual reinsurance rendezvous

The ‘SIRC 2020 Re-Mind’ virtual event will be held on the same dates – 2 to 5 November 2020 – as the rescheduled 17th SIRC, with the official opening ceremony to be held on 2 November at 4:00pm Singapore time. The Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister for Finance, Mr Heng Swee Keat will be the Guest-of-Honour to officiate at the opening and deliver the official keynote address.

The chairman of the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA), host of ‘SIRC 2020 Re-Mind’, Mr Marc Haushofer, said, “We have thought long and hard about this and believe this virtual event concept is very innovative and will set the standard for industry conferences in the future digital world”. He added, “We have shared this idea with several of our key stakeholders, including our regulator, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and they have been most supportive.”

Mr Russell Higginbotham, CEO Reinsurance Asia & Regional President at Swiss Re Asia, said, “Even though we live in a different world today than a year ago, we should not change our fundamental human desire to explore, adapt, and innovate. Swiss Re has decided to co-host this year's SIRC because we believe in the power of working together to move forward. We know we can achieve more if we join forces to explore ways to transform, especially in this region where we continue to strongly believe in its growth and development. We are pleased and honoured to co-host ‘SIRC 2020 Re-Mind’ and lead the industry conversation on transformation."

As co-host, Swiss Re will curate conference sessions during the virtual event featuring senior leaders and experts from around the world in discussions on a wide range of (re)insurance topics, such as ‘Insurance digitalisation in a post-COVID world’; ‘De-risking global supply chains’; and ‘Managing climate risks'. Other contributing partners are being lined up to curate other sessions to be presented at the event.

Several international media partners, including Asia Insurance Review, will also be participating at the virtual event to distribute their newsletters, special features and other media content in the virtual Media Centre.

The event will comprise virtual zones created for the Conference Lobby; Help Desk; Conference Hall; Networking Lounge; Meetings Arcade; Meetings Concourse; and Media Centre; where registered delegates will be able to navigate around seamlessly to attend keynote and panel sessions curated by contributing partners; engage in open chats or roundtables; visit Meeting Rooms and Meeting Pods of partner companies or the media partners in the Media Centre.

Registration for the event is free for all insurance / reinsurance industry practitioners.

About the Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC)

Launched in 1991, the SIRC, organised by the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA), has established itself as one of the most important events on the global reinsurance calendar where leading insurers, brokers and reinsurers gather to take stock of the reinsurance market and set the tone for the renewal season while exploring new opportunities for business cooperation. At the last live event in 2019, the SIRC drew almost 1,100 delegates and nearly 1,900 meeting visitors from 52 countries, with over 200 industry organisations actively supporting the event as partners, exhibitors and meeting hosts.
