Nepal:Much still needs to be done to make insurance reliable and affordable

| 19 May 2025

Nepal insurance industry has still to do a lot to make insurance easy, affordable and above all trustworthy for all according to Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) executive director Sushil Dev Subedi.

According to a press report by Nepalese insurance web portal https://insurancekhabar.com/en/ Mr Subedi was recently addressing a programme organised in Kathmandu to coincide with the 57th anniversary of the NIA.

Mr Subedi said, “Insurance should be made reliable and affordable, so that it can become an integral part of our lives. This would help to protect a person’s life, property and business from accidental risks.”

He said the credibility of the insurance sector is yet to be established strongly and there is a need for all of us to be more proactive in extending the reach of insurance to the remote and backward regions of the country. Mr Subedi said therefore it is important that all stakeholders should collaborate and carry out public awareness programmes.

He said there is an urgent need to ensure financial security by transferring existing risks to human life, homes, property and capital resources to insurance companies. It is also necessary to inform the general public about the importance of insurance, its benefits and service process by effectively mobilising the means of publicity.
