Vietnam:HCM to allocate US$75.88m for health insurance supporting 2.7m people

| 18 Nov 2025

Ho Chi Minh City plans to allocate over VND 2,000bn from its budget to cover the full health insurance premiums for more than 2.7m individuals, including students and those aged 65 to under 75.

This initiative has received widespread support and praise from many readers.

Many believe this is a significant advancement for Ho Chi Minh City in enhancing social security. For individuals, particularly students and the elderly, this policy not only alleviates financial burdens but also fosters a sense of care and support.

However, alongside the positive response, many readers have expressed concerns, particularly regarding the refund of health insurance premiums paid for the 2025-2026 school year.

The current health insurance cards for students are valid until the end of 2025. Starting January 1, 2026, when schools compile the list of students enrolled in health insurance, both the central and city budgets will cover 100% of the contributions as per the resolution.
