The Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC), reported that as of 12 December 2025, southern provinces have seen approximately 30,000 vehicle damage claims totalling THB7.5bn ($206m) and 26,000 property damage claims worth THB1.8 bn due to recent floods.
The figures are preliminary and expected to rise as surveys continue and some residents remain inaccessible. The OIC is coordinating with insurers to ensure all claims are assessed and paid quickly and fairly. Total loss claims are expected to be settled within 3–7 days, while property insurance payouts should be completed by the end of 2025.
The commission is monitoring claims on a company-by-company basis to reflect the true impact of the floods.
Insurance companies have been instructed to urgently review and clearly communicate the terms and conditions of residential insurance policies to their employees, particularly regarding sublimit, which have recently caused complaints due to incomplete or misleading information.
All insurers are required to establish accurate, clear, and standardised communication methods to ensure policyholders understand their coverage and can exercise their rights fairly. Companies are also to coordinate closely with affiliated repair shops to ensure vehicle repairs are completed promptly and in line with policy terms.
Insurers have reaffirmed their commitment to settle total loss claims within 3–7 days and property insurance claims by the end of 2025, demonstrating the industry’s role in supporting policyholders during the crisis and reinforcing its image as a key mechanism for post-disaster recovery.
