Markel Insurance has appointed Mr John Bang as its inaugural Head of Korea and Japan.
In his new role, Mr Bang will lead Markel International’s operations across Korea and Japan, strengthening the division’s presence in these markets, with a focus on developing its wholesale business.
He will also be responsible for launching Markel International’s Japan and Korea desks, overseeing business development and deepening relationships with local partners and cedents.
Mr Bang brings extensive experience in the insurance industry across Korea and Japan, with a strong background in Marine Underwriting and Business Development. He joins from Zurich Insurance Company, where he worked for over a decade in leadership positions across Asia.
“Japan and Korea are sophisticated, high-growth specialty insurance markets, and Mr Bang’s deep local knowledge, language skills and trusted relationships make him exceptionally well-suited to lead our expansion,” said Markel Insurance Managing Director – APAC Chang Sucheng.
