China faces growing climate-related challenges as it weathers concurrent events

| 09 Jul 2026

Even as Super Typhoon Bavi continues its course to China's eastern coast, the country continues to grapple with a series of concurrent emergencies in the wake of other weather events.

For instance, according to news platform The Straits Times, flooding caused by Typhoon Maysak has already killed two in the southern city of Nanning.

There were also at least 11 fatalities in Hubei province as two tornadoes swept across the region, stated an article by the news platform International Travel and Health Insurance Journal.

The country’s National Meteorological Centre has warned about heavy rainfall in provinces including Guangxi, Guizhou and Hunan in the coming days, on top of additional warnings that remain in place for Guangdong, Hainan, Liaoning and Shandong.

According to the International Travel and Health Insurance Journal, these successive weather events not only illustrate the growing operational challenges posed by climate-related disasters, but also translate into insurance claims related to trip delays and cancellations, among others, due to road closures, evacuations, flooding and disruptions.
