Life insurance industry premium income on an unweighted basis went up 8.2% y-o-y in the first half of 2026 to touch IDR94.75tn ($5.36bn).
The life insurance industry performance in the first half of 2026, is based on unaudited financial reports from 56 life insurance companies. On a weighted basis, premium income stood at IDR58.06tn in 1H2026, down by 0.8%. The industry saw a 7.7% increase in the number of policies sold at 22.44m in 1H2026, while the number of insured surged 24.8% to 153.58m.
The industry paid IDR75.57tn in claims and benefits, up 4.3%, whereas total industry income fell 11.2% to IDR96.39tn in 1H2026.
Traditional life insurance products continued to dominate the market with premiums touching IDR59.03tn in 1H2026, up 6.9% and unit-linked premiums stood at IDR35.73tn, growing 10.3%. For new business on an unweighted basis, premium income grew 20.5% to IDR57.75tn in 1H2026 and renewal premiums stood at IDR 37.01tn, down 6.7%. Single premiums surged 26.3% to IDR 40.76tn in 1H2026, while regular premiums stood at IDR53.99tn, down 2.4%. Overall, the life insurance industry's total sum insured reached IDR8,200tn, growing 10.1%.
