Sompo Japan has entered a partnership with satellite-based intelligence data provider, ICEYE to enhance its response to flood events and support customers affected by natural disasters.
The adoption of satellite data like ICEYE's Flood Insights forms part of Sompo Japan’s wider Hikeshi DNA 2030 Project, which aims to enhance regional resilience. One of the project's pillars is to strengthen the ability to respond before, during and after natural disasters, helping communities and customers better prepare for and recover from increasingly severe natural hazards.
ICEYE Japan CEO Yasuhiro “Pete” Tsukahara said that by providing rapid and accurate intelligence on the extent and severity of flood events, ICEYE can help enable a faster and more efficient claims response in the aftermath of a major flood event.
Japan regularly faces typhoons and floods, that impacts over 20% of its population. Early warning systems and accurate flood predictions are crucial for giving communities enough time to prepare and act, which can reduce losses of life and property.
