The Indonesian government will inject IDR20tn ($1.11bn) into health insurer BPJS Kesehatan to help the state insurer cover its deficit in 2026.
The health insurer with 285m policyholders, is one of the ?largest single-payer health insurer in the world, but it often runs into financial ?difficulties, prompting government intervention.
The health insurer has ?collected IDR118tn in revenues in 2026 against the IDR132tn it has paid out in medical claims. The additional funds are set to be disbursed in stages during October and November 2026 to ensure the smooth payment of claims to healthcare facilities.
