India:Life insurers to reinsure 30% of sum assured with GIC Re - IRDA

IRDA has mandated domestic life insurers to reinsure up to 30% of the sum assured on each policy with General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re), India's sole reinsurer, to ensure maximum reinsurance retention within the country. While Indian life insurers already have reinsurance contracts with GIC Re, there was previously no such mandate to reinsure a percentage of sum assured with the Indian reinsurer.
