| 12 Aug 2025

The Vietnamese government has recently issued Decree 188, which provides detailed guidance for implementing several provisions of the Health Insurance Law, reported local media.

As per the decree, the health insurance contribution rate will be maintained at 4.5% of the current basic salary. Vietnam Social Security has announced State support for family health insurance contributions. The first family member’s contribution is set at 4.5% of the basic salary, equivalent to VND2.34m ($100) per month. Contributions for the second, third and fourth family members are reduced to 70%, 60%, and 50% of the first member’s contribution, respectively. From the fifth member onward, the contribution rate is 40% of the first person’s share.

Under the law, participants can freely select their initial medical examination and treatment facilities. The health insurance fund covers 80% of related medical costs without restrictions on disease type, age, length of treatment, or total expenses. The coverage includes over 2,400 drugs and approximately 9,000 medical technical services, including treatments for cancer, cardiovascular conditions, rare diseases and more.
