Lao Telecommunications Public Company and People in Need Laos have signed a cooperation agreement regarding the implementation of the Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) System in the Lao PDR.
According to a LinkedIn post by Lao Telecommunications, the system will send warnings through SMS and interactive voice response. The aim of the collaboration is also to “help communities living downstream prepare for and adapt to climate change, especially floods, which have directly affected communities, livelihoods and infrastructure across the country”, as well as contribute to reducing the loss of life and property caused by floods, the post stated.
The contract was signed by Lao Telecommunication Deputy Director General Alounnadeth Barnchit and People in Need (PIN) Laos Head of Programmes Tomáš Durana.
The signing was witnessed by various parties, including Ministry of Technology and Communications Head of Cabinet Phuangpasert Keosouvanh; Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Department of Meteorology and Hydrology Director General Virasack Chundara; and executives from the United Nations for Lao PDR, United Nations Children’s Fund and stakeholders.
The project is aligned with ‘The Early Warning for All (EW4All) Roadmap 2024-2027’ by the United Nations for Lao PDR.
