India, a land where millions of deities are worshipped daily, is now seeking insurance for the gods themselves. In a telling reflection to the times, religious festival organisers now believe that they and their gods could do with some insurance cover during the festival days. Industry sources reveal that in the city of Mumbai itself insurance cover worth $80m was taken this year during the Ganesh (elephant god of the Hindus) festival.
