The ministry of agriculture has made it mandatory for dairy farmers in the country to purchase cattle insurance from 1 January 2026, with the government subsidising half of the insurance premium, reported the Taipei Times
The ministry released the new rules to bolster operational risk diversification for dairy farmers and the regulations governing mandatory insurance and premium subsidy of dairy cattle death insurance were established based on the Agricultural Insurance Act.
Insurance rates for dairy cattle insurance coverage had increased to 82.6% last year and with the government subsidising half of the insurance premium, farmers would now have to pay NT$925 (US$30)for each dairy cow. Under the new insurance scheme, farmers whose insured cattle is culled can receive NT$30,000 in compensation for the first cow and an additional compensation of up to NT$17,000 each for others.
