Australia:Survey finds 39% of drivers want to ban e-bikes in school zones

Findings from a survey by insurer AAMI has found that 39% of drivers agree that e-bikes and e-scooters should be banned from school zones.

The insurer also noted that several schools in Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia have already introduced bans on school grounds from the start of this year.

Driver worries

According to the survey, points of worry among drivers include:

  • 67% of drivers worry over how fast e-bikes and e-scooters can go
  • 52% are concerned about children’s lack of road rule knowledge (e.g. navigating intersections, roundabouts, etc.)
  • 41% worry about children riding near busy roads
  • 40% are concerned that drivers will not be able to see kids on these e-devices
