Thailand and Laos to collaborate to expand and strengthen insurance industry

| 02 Feb 2026

Thailand and the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Laos) will collaborate on developing a sustainable and accessible health insurance ecosystem, framing guidelines for the supervision of insurance for electric vehicles (EVs) and promoting electronic insurance policies (e-policies).

The Thai regulator, the Insurance Commissioner (OIC), and a visiting delegation of the Laotian Department of Financial Enterprise Protection held discussions on these issues last month.

In a media statement, the OIC said that it provided a briefing on the Thai insurance sector to the visiting Laotian delegates. The Thai insurance industry has expanded investments in Laos, underscoring the opportunity to enhance regulatory cooperation.

The two sides expressed hope that cooperation will ensure the exchange of knowledge and the development of the insurance system at the regional level to create stability and strengthen confidence in the insurance systems of the two countries over the long term.
