China launches joint inspections into suspected medical insurance and drug distribution irregularities

| 14 Jul 2026

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and National Healthcare Security Administration have launched joint inspections of medical institutions and pharmaceutical wholesalers in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Shanxi Province following the identification of suspicious activity through drug traceability code screening.

The inspections will focus on irregularities in medical insurance fund management and the drug distribution supply chain, including abnormal traceability records and suspected duplicate reimbursement claims, reported China Daily.

Authorities said any violations uncovered during the investigation will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The NMPA said strengthening the nationwide drug traceability system is essential to safeguarding drug quality and safety. It added that wider adoption of digital tracking technologies and closer coordination between government agencies would improve the detection of irregularities and enhance regulatory oversight.
