Japan:Sompo Direct launches new web-based claims portal

| 22 Jul 2026

Sompo Direct Insurance has launched a new claims portal that makes the claims notification and filing process more accessible for customers.

With support from Sollers, the Japanese insurer Sompo Direct has implemented a web-based claims portal for personal auto insurance. The new first notice of loss (FNOL) solution increases flexibility in the claims notification process, enabling customers to register claims online, submit supporting documents, and navigate a streamlined digital journey. The portal is designed to shift a substantial portion of simple claims—those not involving bodily injury—away from the call center, with a target of handling up to 50% of such cases through the portal. The project was built on the Guidewire Jutro Digital Platform with support from Guidewire.

Before the launch of the new portal, claims data captured through legacy tools had to be manually re-entered into the claims system, increasing costs, extending processing times, and raising the risk of errors. The new solution integrates directly with the claims and document management systems, significantly improving efficiency and creating opportunities for further automation.

Jutro was used to accelerate development and simplify integration with Guidewire ClaimCenter. The portal leverages out-of-the-box user interface (UI) capabilities to speed up delivery and enhance the user experience. Sollers teams provided technical guidance and implemented additional features, including Google Maps integration, document processing functionality, and customer support features.

To further enhance the digital experience, Sompo Direct’s new solution incorporates advanced monitoring tools, including Datadog and Google Analytics. These tools enable the tracking of user journeys, help identify potential issues, and support the continuous optimisation of the claims process through a data-driven approach.
