The Singapore College of Insurance (SCI), together with Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and the Institute of Technical Education have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen insurance talent attraction and development.
The collaboration creates a common framework for the seven organisations to coordinate industry engagement and make pathways into the insurance sector more visible to students. It will build on existing initiatives, including internships, industry projects, mentorship, scholarships and career activities, while allowing each institution to tailor opportunities to its students and curriculum.
Through the MoU, the organisations will explore opportunities for students to learn directly from insurance practitioners and employers. These may include company visits, job-shadowing, career talks, applied projects, hackathons, internships and work-based learning.
Relevant activities may also support alumni and educators through continuing education and professional development.
The aim is to help students understand the range of roles available in insurance, apply their learning to industry challenges and make more informed decisions about their next steps. Engagement with educators and employers will also help keep activities relevant to emerging skills needs.
SCI will serve as a connector between the participating institutions and the insurance sector. Working with employers and sector stakeholders, it will help facilitate access to practitioners, mentors, projects and learning opportunities.
The institutions will identify suitable student groups and platforms, support participation and share feedback to improve activities over time.
The partnership will also explore collaboration in curriculum enrichment, scholarships and awards, innovation activities, lifelong learning, employer engagement, and research and evaluation, where relevant to the participating institutions.
