Asia: Sunlife Financial makes portfolio changes to Executive Committee
Mr Dean Connor, President and CEO of Sun Life Financial Inc, announced the following three changes to Sun Life Financial’s Executive Team effective 29 May 2017.
 
   Mr Kevin Strain, currently President, Sun Life Financial Asia, will become Executive Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer. Mr Claude Accum, currently Executive Vice-President & Chief Risk Officer, will assume the role of President, Sun Life Financial Asia. Mr Colm Freyne, currently Executive Vice-President & CFO, will become Executive Vice-President & Chief Risk Officer.
 
   The following executives will continue to serve as members of Mr Connor’s Executive Team:
  • Kevin Dougherty, President, Sun Life Financial Canada
  • Dan Fishbein, President, Sun Life Financial U.S.
  • Steve Peacher, President, Sun Life Investment Management
  • Carrie Blair, Executive Vice-President, Chief Human Resources & Communications Officer
  • Melissa Kennedy, Executive Vice-President, Chief Legal Officer & Public Affairs

Asia: Aviva appoints Regional CEO for China, Indonesia and Vietnam
Aviva Asia announced the appointment of Mr Randy Lianggara as Regional CEO for China, Indonesia and Vietnam. The appointment was effective 1 April 2017. 
 
   This is a newly created role focusing on China, Indonesia and Vietnam, which are three promising markets for Aviva in Asia. Mr Lianggara will continue to report to Mr Chris Wei, Executive Chairman of Aviva Asia and Global Chairman of Aviva Digital, and will also oversee the operation of the Asia regional office. 
 
   Mr Lianggara has 25 years of experience in the industry and joined Aviva as the Regional Executive for Indonesia and Vietnam in June 2016. 

Chubb has new President in Hong Kong and new Head of Power and Utilities for Asia 
Mr Michael Ho has been appointed to the role of Country President for Chubb Life in Hong Kong. He will be responsible for leading the Hong Kong operations for Chubb Life and will report to Chubb Life’s Regional President in Asia Pacific, Mr Kevin Goulding.
 
   Mr Titus Samuel as the new Head of Power and Utilities for Asia. Mr Samuel will be based in Singapore and will report to Mr Mick Peacock, Head of Power and Energy for Asia Pacific 

Asia: Allianz unveils new Head of Corporate Development
Allianz has announced the appointment of Ms Julia Zheng Kuik as Head of Corporate Development, Asia Pacific. In this capacity, Ms Zheng will have lead responsibility for Allianz’s business development agenda in the Group’s growth region, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and new partnerships. 
 
   With over 12 years of experience in M&A execution in the financial services sector, Ms Zheng most recently served as Head of Business Development, Asia, for Insurance Australia Group (IAG). She will report to Regional CEO Mr George Sartorel.

Asia: XL Catlin promotes new Head of International Casualty, Insurance for Asia Pacific
XL Catlin has announced the promotion of Mr Rory Morison to Head International Casualty, Asia Pacific. In his new role, Mr Morison will be responsible for driving XL Catlin’s casualty business and market presence in the APAC region. 
 
   Mr Morison takes on this new role in addition to his position as the Underwriting Manager, Casualty- Insurance, for Australia. He will continue to be based in Melbourne. 

Munich Re reveals lead for Health business in Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East 
Munich Re has restructured the responsibility for its health business across the Group and appointed Dr Frank Mayer to lead Munich Re’s Health business for Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East. 
 
   Dr Mayer will report to Mr Daniel Cossette, Head of Life and Health, for Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East.

Asia: Atradius announces key hire
Atradius has appointed Mr Oliver Ford as Regional Sales Manager Asia based in Hong Kong, a newly created role. Mr Ford will start in his new remit on 1 June and will report to Mr Eric den Boogert, Managing Director for Asia. 
 
   In his previous position, Mr Ford had led business development for Atradius Global in the UK. 

Australia: Key changes to Insurance Council Board
The Board of the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has made several new appointments following a Special Board Meeting held in Sydney.
 
   Mr Anthony Day, CEO Insurance, Suncorp, has been appointed President of the Insurance Council and Chairman of the Board. Mr Richard Enthoven, Chief Executive Officer, The Hollard Insurance Company, has been appointed Deputy President. 
 
   Mr Patrick Regan, Group CFO and CEO, Australian & New Zealand Operations, QBE, has joined the Board as a Director. The Managing Director of Allianz Australia Insurance, Mr Niran Peiris, has stepped down as Acting President and as Deputy President. He remains a director.

Australia: Gallagher Bassett New Zealand makes new acquisition, announces new GM
Gallagher Bassett New Zealand Ltd (GB) acquired a leading third party claims administrator, Auckland-headquartered Symetri Ltd. Symetri is a leading general insurance third-party claims administrator that provides assessing, project management and claims management services throughout the whole of New Zealand.
 
   Former Symetri CEO Ms Katherine Woollard is now GB’s National Operations Manager, General Insurance for New Zealand. Ms Woollard has been with Symetri since July 2014. Approximately 90 Symetri staff will be joining GB as part of the acquisition. 

Singapore: ILAS reveals new office-bearers
The Insurance Law Association Singapore (ILAS), has introduced its line-up of new office-bearers including a new vice president and secretary for the term starting March 2017.
 
   Incumbent President, Mr Pooba Mahalingam, returned unopposed at the ILAS Annual General Meeting held in March. Ms Elaine Tay, Hon Secretary for the previous term, took over as Vice President from outgoing Mr K. Anparasan. 

Singapore: Brit names new CEO in Asia
Brit Ltd has announced the appointment of Mr David Lim as CEO, Brit Global Specialty Singapore, with effect from 15 May 2017.
 
   Following the appointment, Mr Lim, together with Mr Charles Barrett, chief underwriting officer, Asia Pacific, will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities and establishing new lines of business for Brit Global Specialty Singapore, which is also known as Brit Singapore. Mr Lim will report to Mr Christiern Dart, Chief Underwriting 
Officer for Brit.
 
   Mr Lim has over 15 years of marine insurance experience and joins from ArgoGlobal, where he was most recently head of Marine in Asia. 

Global: Everest Re names new lead of Commercial Casualty
Everest Re has announced Mr Christopher McKeown as new leader of its Commercial Casualty unit within the Risk Management Group.
 
   Working from the Group’s New York based office, Mr McKeown will oversee multi-line primary casualty solutions for upper middle market clients, reporting to Mr David Sandler, Head of the Everest Risk Management Group.

Global: Manulife appoints new President
Manulife announced that Mr Roy Gori, who currently heads the company’s Asia Division, has been appointed President, effective 5 June. In his new role, Mr Gori will have responsibility for Manulife’s global operating businesses, reporting to CEO Donald Guloien.
 
   As president, Mr Gori will lead Manulife’s Canadian, US and Investment operations, in addition to Asia. He will also be responsible for developing and executing Manulife’s business strategy. Mr Gori is presently based in Hong Kong, but will be moving to Toronto. Manulife added that these changes are subject to immigration approvals.

Global: Pool Re boosts risk analysis capability with new hire
Pool Re, a mutual reinsurer that provides terrorism cover for commercial property in the UK, has appointed Mr Andrew Sean Donaldson as deputy head of risk analysis. 
 
   Mr Donaldson takes up the role with immediate effect and will report to head of risk analysis Mr Ed Butler. He will be responsible for the management of threat reporting and commissioning of analytical products to help Pool Re members and partners understand the modern terrorist threat. He will also assist with project management in support of Pool Re’s wider work in the terrorism re/insurance market.

Global: Miller to bolster credit and political risks team
Miller has hired Mr David Maule for a business production and senior broking role, adding considerable strength to its credit and political risks capabilities.
 
   Mr Maule will work with colleagues in the London, Paris and Singapore offices to develop new business with lenders, traders and corporations, particularly in Germany and Asia. 

Global: LL Global Hires COO 
LL Global, Inc, the umbrella organisation for LIMRA and LOMA, has hired Ms Gina Cinelli Birchall to be COO for the organisation.
 
   In this capacity, Ms Birchall will lead the Legal, Accounting and the Windsor Facilities departments. In addition, she also will be working across the organisation to help implement many of the ongoing entity-wide projects to improve efficiencies and processes.
 
Retirement/resignation moves
Two top executives retiring in Aon Benfield
Aon Benfield has announced the retirement of Mr Michael O’Halleran and Mr Malcolm Steingold
 
   Mr O’Halleran was most recently Aon Benfield’s executive chairman and senior executive vice president of Aon PLC. He was the leader of Aon Re at its inception in 1987 and led the company during its acquisition of Benfield in 2008. 
 
   Mr O’Halleran retired from the business after 37 years of service and will be offering ongoing strategic counsel to the firm.
 
   Mr Steingold is set to step down as Aon Benfield’s head of Asia Pacific after nine years in the role. He served 35 years in the sector including 24 years with Aon. 
 
   Mr Steingold is scheduled to retire in June and will be replaced by the broker’s Asia Pacific executive team. The executives will now lead the business and report directly to Aon Benfield Chief Executive Mr Eric Andersen.

China: CEO & Co-Founder of Fosun resigns for health reasons
Fosun International Ltd, one of China’s most aggressively acquisitive conglomerates, has announced that its chief executive and vice president has stepped down in a surprise reshuffle that has raised concerns over the group’s strategy.
 
   The resignation of co-founder and Chief Executive Mr Liang Xinjun and Senior Vice President Mr Ding Guoqi will have some impact on the leisure-to-insurance group, one of China’s largest privately held firms, said chairman and fellow co-founder Mr Guo Guangchang.
 
   Mr Liang, who was Fosun’s public face, was replaced by fellow co-founder and billionaire Mr Wang Qunbin, said the company, whose businesses include French leisure group Club Med and entertainment company Cirque du Soleil. Mr Wang is a genetic engineer by training and he owns 11% of Fosun International Holdings.

Global: Stephen Catlin retires from XL Group 
XL Group Ltd has announced the retirement of Mr Stephen Catlin, Executive Deputy Chairman, to be effective 31 December 2017. In connection with his retirement, Mr Catlin has notified the company of his intention not to stand for re-election to the company’s Board of Directors at the upcoming Annual General Meeting in May.
 
   Mr Catlin will remain the Company’s Executive Deputy Chairman until 15 May 2017, and following that date until the end of the year, he will act as a special adviser to XL’s CEO, Mr Mike McGavick. 
 
   During this time he will continue to serve as Chairman of the Insurance Development Forum, a public/private forum launched in 2016 by leaders of the insurance industry, the UN and the World Bank, and will work on other related projects. To ensure continuity on these matters, Mr Catlin has agreed to act as a consultant to XL from 
1 January 2018 to 30 September 2018.
