Asia: Japanese insurers rank among the top globally in environmental leadership

CDP, an international environmental NGO, has selected four Asian insurance groups as ‘A list’ companies, the highest rating in the CDP’s Climate Change Assessment, recognising their efforts and information disclosure on climate change.
 
The four are Meiji Yasuda, Tokio Marine, Sompo and Cathay Financial Holding.
 
Every year, CDP selects the best companies in terms of commitments and information disclosure in the field of climate change for the A List. Among over 24,000 organisations which disclosed information through CDP’s platform in 2023, only 346 are on the list.
 
Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance announced that for the first time, it has been selected to be an A List company by CDP, recognising its leadership in environmental transparency and performance on climate change, deforestation and water security.
 
As part of Meiji Yasuda Life’s activities to address climate change, the group set a target of net-zero CO2 emissions to be achieved in FY2050 and an intermediate target to be achieved in FY2030 and formulated the ‘Roadmap for Net-zero CO2 Emissions’ from the standpoint of both a business operator and an institutional investor. A
