India:Banks against becoming insurance brokers

Banks in India are refusing to drop their corporate agency licences to become insurance brokers, in a response to the central bank's release last week of guidelines permitting the lending institutions to undertake insurance broking business. Executives of several banks say that they find the broking regulations onerous.
