New Zealand:Most Kiwis see need to tackle climate change

17 Jul 2018

The majority of New Zealanders acknowledge the need to prepare for the impact of climate change -- but few believe enough will be done, according to a new poll.

Of the 1,000 New Zealanders polled, 88% think the country will see more severe floods, storms and inundation as a result of climate change, reports Newshub citing the poll results.

In addition, 84% agree humanity is able to reduce climate change, but just 10% think it will take appropriate action.

Further, 79% agree there is a need to start taking action now, and 78% think there is a need to act even if other countries don't. 74% believe climate change will result in people needing to move from where they live now.

The poll also found that when climate change was compared to issues like crime, immigration or housing, it wasn't a priority for people.
