Indonesia:Life insurance industry sees 8.8% rise in insured population in 1H2025

| 26 Aug 2025

The Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI) reported an increase in the number of insured individuals in the life insurance sector during the first half of 2025.

According to AAJI Board of Directors Chairman Budi Tampubolon, the total number of insured reached 123.7m in the period.

“This marks an 8.8% rise from the 113.68m policyholders recorded in the same period of 2024,” he stated at an AAJI press conference in Central Jakarta.

However, AAJI data shows that the pace of growth in the first half of 2025 was relatively modest compared to the same period in 2024, when the number of insured grew by 27.9% year-on-year (YoY).

Mr Budi noted that the increase in insured individuals this year reflects the concerted efforts of stakeholders across insurance companies, particularly marketers. He emphasised that marketers play a vital role in addressing the public’s protection needs.

He further highlighted that the increase in the total number of insured signals positive momentum for the life insurance industry heading into the remainder of the year.

“This also reflects the industry’s commitment to strengthening public trust through continuous transformation in services and products,” Mr Budi said.

Breaking down the figures, Mr Budi noted that growth was largely driven by the group segment. The number of insured under group life insurance reached 102.07m in the first half of 2025, up 7.4% from 95.07m in the same period last year. The group segment accounted for 82.51% of the industry’s total insured.

Meanwhile, in the individual segment, the number of insured rose to 21.63m in the first half of 2025, an increase of 16.2% compared to 18.61m in the first half of 2024. This segment contributed 17.49% to the total insured in the life insurance industry during the period.
