A patient has died after ransomware hackers hit a German hospital

The world has perhaps recorded its first human fatality linked directly to a cyberattack. For the first time ever, a patient's death has been linked directly to a cyberattack. According to a news article published in the current issue of MIT Technology Review, police have launched a "negligent homicide" investigation after ransomware disrupted emergency care at Düsseldorf University Hospital in Germany on 9 September 2020.
