AIA Group has reported strong financial results for the first six months of 2026, recording double-digit growth across its main financial measures and continued momentum in new business. Value of new business (VONB) rose 10% to $3.21bn, while operating profit after tax (OPAT) increased 13% per share. The insurer also reported a 10% increase in underlying free surplus generation (UFSG) per share. AIA said the results put it on track to exceed its target of 9 to 11% compound annual growth in OPAT per share from 2023 to 2026.
The strong business performance was driven by growth across its distribution channels and most reportable segments. VONB increased 14 per cent when excluding Thailand, while annualised operating return on embedded value reached a record 18 per cent, up from 15.8 per cent for full-year 2025. AIA’s Premier Agency delivered 11 per cent VONB growth excluding Thailand, while strategic distribution partners recorded an 18 per cent increase, driven by strong performance in bancassurance and independent financial adviser and broker channels.
Stronger cash generation was also reported during the period, alongside increased returns to shareholders. Net free surplus generation rose 12% per share to $2.76bn, while the group returned $3.6bn to shareholders during the first half through dividends and share buy-backs. The Board declared a 10% increase in the interim dividend to 53.90 Hong Kong cents per share.
Looking ahead, AIA said Asia continues to offer significant long-term growth opportunities for life and health insurance, supported by rising demand for protection and professional financial advice. The company has also maintained its position as the world’s number one multinational company by Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) members for a record 12 consecutive years.
