Philippine HMOs pay out US$711m in health benefits in H1 2026

The pay-out of Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) in the Philippines reached PHP41.23bn ($711m) in total benefits and claims in the first half of 2026, marking a 13.62% increase from PHP36.29bn in the same period last year. This, according to Manila's Insurance Commission (IC), reflects increased utilisation of healthcare services. Data from the IC also show that despite the higher payouts, the HMO industry maintained a strong financial position, supported by rising revenues and membership fee collections.

Total HMO revenues increased 19.99% year on year to PHP56.43bn in H1 2026, while membership fees rose 19.71% to PHP54.82bn. Total expenses also increased by 19.27% to PHP54.34bn. The industry recorded growth across key balance sheet indicators, with total assets rising 18.75% to PHP99.64bn and total equity increasing 37.15% to PHP15.99bn. Invested assets posted the strongest growth, rising 49.02% to PHP27.17bn.

The IC added that the industry's performance demonstrates its financial resilience and capacity to meet its obligations amid increasing demand for healthcare services. Total liabilities rose 15.77% to PHP83.65bn, while total capital stock increased 15.52% to PHP7.66bn. The Commission said it remains committed to supporting the continued development of the HMO industry as it responds to growing healthcare needs.
