The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) scheme launched by the government of India in February 2016 has given a huge boost to the Indian farming community, as it covers an entire gamut of risks from sowing to post harvesting. This scheme has made agriculture insurance the third largest line of insurance after motor and health in India and is reinsurance-driven, contributing about one third of total reinsurance premiums in India.
