Sri Lanka:Regulator expands insurance awareness campaign to Northern Province

| 30 Oct 2025

The Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL), the Sri Lankan insurance regulator, continued its island-wide insurance awareness campaign with a series of programmes in the Northern Province.

The move followed the successful launch of the initiative in the Southern Province in the Matara District. The project aims to promote financial inclusion, improve insurance penetration and enhance public understanding of the importance of coverage as a tool for protection and stability.

Conducted in collaboration with the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Insurance Brokers Association and the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute, awareness sessions of the campaign covered life, motor, non-motor insurance, as well as government insurance schemes such as Agrahara and the Optional Compensation Scheme for third-party motor accident victims.

Sessions also highlighted the IRCSL’s role in protecting policyholders, and regulating and developing the industry, as well as the advantages of obtaining insurance through licensed brokers.

Through these initiatives, the IRCSL seeks to build a more informed and financially secure society by empowering the public with knowledge of insurance, available schemes and consumer rights.

The campaign is part of IRCSL’s broader commitment to expanding insurance awareness across all provinces in Sri Lanka, fostering greater confidence and inclusiveness in the insurance sector.
