Thailand's insurance regulator, the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), is accelerating the implementation of a nationwide system to protect victims of road accidents.
As part of this initiative, training is being provided to medical personnel in 17 northern provinces on the process of submitting initial compensation claims under the Motor Vehicle Accident Victims Protection Act B.E. 2535 (1992), in order to improve the efficiency of the system, and ensure speed, transparency and a consistent standard nationwide.
According to the OIC, training is aimed at providing a platform for exchanging ideas and enhancing shared understanding among relevant agencies, including the Compensation Fund for Victims of Road Accidents, the insurance industry and public and private hospitals.
The training also aims to enhance understanding of the coverage conditions and procedures for exercising rights under motor vehicle accident victim insurance policies.
According to OIC Special Expert Mayurin Sutthirattanaphan, the motor vehicle accident victim protection system is a “crucial mechanism for ensuring safety and compensation for the public”.
