Philippine pre-need industry records double-digit growth in 2025

The Philippine pre-need industry posted double-digit growth at the end of 2025, with total net worth reaching PHP33.87bn ($577.26M), a figure 21.04% higher than that recorded a year earlier. Data from the Philippine Insurance Commission also showed retained earnings increasing by 39.57%, accounting for 73.48% of total net worth.

Total assets of the industry also increased by 8.19%, reaching PHP178.2bn at end-2025. This growth was driven primarily by investments in trust funds, which rose by 9.64% and now represent 85.92% of total assets.

Total liabilities stood at PHP144.33bn, largely due to pre-need reserves, which make up 91.27% of the industry’s total liabilities. The industry also recorded a PHP16.03bn surplus over required reserves, a 62.62% improvement compared with the industry’s 2024 record, with investments in trust funds remaining more than sufficient to cover all pre-need reserves, including benefits payable.

Total premium income likewise continued its strong performance, reaching PHP23.94bn, a 5.73% increase from the previous year. Total net income also rose by 54.40%, from PHP5.15bn in 2024 to PHP7.96bn in 2025.

The number of plans sold grew by 28.02%, from 699,621 plans in 2024 to 895,679 plans in 2025, with life and memorial plans accounting for 99.84% of total sales.

Commenting on the figures, Insurance Commissioner Reynaldo A. Regalado said, “Strengthened regulatory oversight has positively impacted the industry's growth by restoring the trust and confidence of both consumers and investors, ensuring a more secure and transparent market environment. As the data show, the pre-need industry continues on a solid upward path — strengthening its financial position, maintaining profitability, and enhancing its capacity to meet future obligations.”
