ME Conflict:Insured losses in Thailand driven by impacted imports of components; not direct factors

| 28 May 2026

That was what WTW Thailand Market Leader, Insurance Consulting and Technology Ho Bing Kun said to Asia Insurance Review, in response to a question on whether the conflict in the Middle East has impacted motor, fire, or other claims behaviours in Thailand.

Rather, according to Mr Ho, instead of any direct insured losses, the impact from the conflict has been “largely an indirect one impacting supply chain related claims”.

“The primary impact is on marine insurance, driven by Red Sea shipping disruptions that have extended transit times and caused cargo to pile up at ports,” he explained.

“For Thailand’s vital manufacturing sector which relies heavily on the timely import of electronic and vehicle components, these shipping lags have caused knock-on effects, contributing to claims for project delays and business interruption.”

He also mentioned that the Office of Insurance Commission, Thailand’s insurance regulator, has incorporated the Middle East geopolitical conflict scenario into its 2026 stress testing for Thai insurers.
