Munich Re appoints Eric Zhao as CEO of Beijing Branch


The Beijing Branch of reinsurer Munich Re has appointed Eric Zhao as its new CEO, according to a press release issued on 29 December. His appointment took effect on 1 January 2026. Mr Zhao reports to Munich Re's CEO Life & Health in Greater China Steve Zhang.

Mr Zhao replaces Adrian Goh, who will assume the role of CRO for APAC/MEA from 1 February.

Mr Zhao previously served as General Manager of Munich Re Life & Health China. Before joining Munich Re in 2006 as Head of Operations, he held various roles at two major primary insurers in China. Earlier in his career, he worked as a medical doctor. Mr Zhao holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine from the School of Medicine at Peking University and a bachelor’s degree in law from the China University of Political Science and Law.

In his new role, he will lead Munich Re’s branch operations and Life & Health business in China. He will work closely with Serene Chan, Chief Executive, Greater China, P&C, who will continue to oversee Munich Re’s Property and Casualty business across the Greater China region.
